Owner - About Me


I started surfing in Cornwall, later coaching it in my late teens. I loved both, and still do. Surfing can be a demanding sport physically and with spending so much time in the water I soon realised the benefits of good nutrition for my health and performance. This awareness inevitably led to my life-long commitment to wellbeing and fitness.

I later attended Oxford Brookes University and whilst there, land-locked with the ocean so far away, I felt the need for a fresh challenge. I decided on competitive rowing and within nine months I was representing my University at Henley Royal Regatta. In 2011, I graduated with an Honours Degree in Nutrition.

The next two years were spent in a Costa Rican paradise where I coached surfing at a world-renowned boutique surf school. At much the same time I set up Escapes Retreats, the inspiration coming from the local people’s healthy lifestyle of daily exercise, eating nutritious unprocessed foods and practising meditation and yoga.

Where I was working in Costa Rica, mosquitoes were rarely a serious problem, so it was just bad luck when in 2014 a generous mosquito laid me low for a while by giving me dengue fever. The spending of a few days in hospital and the subsequent recovery gave me time to reflect and explore further some ideas I had been mulling over for a while. Clearly my love of coaching was very important for me, I wanted to continue developing my interest in nutrition and exercise and I was beginning to think a lot about my family back in the UK. It now felt right, if only for a while, to plan my return home.

First, however, I spent seven weeks working with one of the head coaches at TRX™ Headquarters in San Francisco. It was there I qualified as a TRX™ Instructor.

I knew I wanted to share my love of coaching and my interests in nutrition and exercise. Now back here in the UK, I have set up Pura Vida Fitness, a comprehensive wellbeing service for clients across London and the Home Counties.
